Spiced Apple Dutch Baby

You are going to want to add this Spiced Apple Dutch Baby recipe to your breakfast plans this weekend. Not only is it delicious, but it’s also easy and kid approved!

Smell is one of the strongest memory stimulators there is and if I walk into a kitchen in the morning and smell caramely apples mixed with the sweet smell of pancake batter cooking I am instantly transported back to our Mom’s kitchen. She probably made Dutch Baby once a week through the fall and winter months and I’d always go over to peek in the oven to confirm what my nose was telling me – something amazing was in that oven in a cast iron pan!

We often had an overabundance of fresh New York apples in our cold room thanks to amazing friends who owned apple orchards in New York and would bring us bushels every fall. You can use any type of apple for this Dutch Baby but Golden or Pink Lady are now my favorites. And don’t worry about peeling them, they will be tender through and through.

For this recipe, I love to use my Cast Iron Skillet. This skillet is perfect for caramelizing your apples before adding the batter, and then it’s also oven safe! Cast Iron is a great option for cooking because the heat is very evenly distributed due to the material and thickness of these pans. If you don’t have a cast iron that you love, I strongly suggest you get one. PRO TIP: you can almost always find them in antique stores or at your local second hand store

I guarantee this breakfast will fill your home with the sweet smells of fall and warm you from the inside out.

Go ahead and sprinkle a little extra cinnamon and sugar or powdered sugar on the top to serve it if you like!
